033. Forecasting Your 2026
Storms teach more than excitement- they teach attention, preparation, and how to respond to changing conditions. A new year works the same way: full of potential, unexpected events, and shifting circumstances.
Just like no storm chaser would head out without observing conditions first, you shouldn’t approach a new year without intention, reflection, and some tools to anticipate challenges. Here’s my must-have items as I look forward to a new year:
1. Reflect on Last Year
Every storm you chase, every unexpected shift in the atmosphere, leaves lessons. Last year, I began with plans for a smooth, productive season, but unexpected shifts- a personal project that went sideways, changes in my schedule, and some unplanned emotional turbulence- forced me to adapt.
Life mirrors that pattern.
Take a moment to review last year:
What were your most intense experiences- the achievements that pushed you?
What challenges caught you off guard and tested you?
When did you find stability and calm, and what did you learn during those times?
For me, last year began with a sense of predictability, but some sudden changes forced me to adapt quickly. Looking back, those moments offered insight I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. Reflection like this is your personal radar; you may not see everything ahead, but you can make more informed choices about what’s worth your energy.
2. Identify Your Core Values
Chasers rely on instruments- radar, models, and so on- to interpret conditions. Last year, I realized that my values- curiosity, connection, and resilience- kept me grounded when my plans went off track. Without them, I might have chased outcomes that didn’t matter.
Ask yourself:
What principles guide your decisions, even when things get unpredictable?
What keeps you grounded during change?
What brings meaning, regardless of external circumstances?
Values help you focus on what truly matters and prevent you from overcommitting to situations that aren’t aligned with your priorities.
3. Set Intentions, Not Rigid Resolutions
Even the best weather forecasts aren’t perfect. Conditions evolve, new variables appear, and plans must adapt. Life is no different. Rigid resolutions can set you up for frustration; flexible intentions let you move forward without pressure.
Some examples:
Notice and celebrate small wins.
Prioritize connection over constant activity.
Prepare for challenges without letting them derail you.
Intentions give direction while leaving room for reality to unfold.
4. Accept Uncertainty
Weather doesn’t follow our schedules, and neither does life. Unpredictability isn’t a problem to fix; rather, it’s the baseline reality.
Calm periods are opportunities for growth, rest, and reflection.
Unexpected challenges can teach resilience and insight.
Surprises can reveal strengths you didn’t know you had.
2025 taught me that preparedness, flexibility, and staying connected to values matter more than perfection. Accepting uncertainty allows you to respond thoughtfully rather than react out of stress.
Forecasting your year isn’t about controlling every outcome- it’s about readiness, reflection, and alignment. Some situations will challenge you, some will inspire you, and some will require adaptation- the key is how you choose to show up.
